Description

Stefano Zuffi's Color In Art is a study and examination of color theory and its application in art, with a focus on paintings.

Stefano Zuffi's Color In Art is a study and examination of color theory and its application in art, with a focus on paintings. More than 200 pieces of art from the old masters right up to Rothko are used to illustrate the examples, with chapters dedicated to the colors Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Black and White. The accompanying notes provide background information on each painting featured and are light on technical explanations, focusing more on how color play its part in the aesthetic context of each art work.

Every color has many aspects, many variations, and many meanings. Red, for instance, can mean passion, or suffering, or anger. How are these aspects represented in works of art from Titian and Bosch to Matisse and Warhol? Painters use colors to convey a message as much as they do for surface appeal. In design and fashion, color is omnipresent as well, but incredibly varied in its significance.

Unique -- and relatively concise -- insights into how artists used color in their famous works. No other art book is quite like it.

Ok, so I translated it. But I bought it for someone else who just loved it. But then again, she is my cousin.
