Kevin D. Murphy, ed. Folk Art in Maine: Uncommon Treasures, 1750–1925 (Down East Books, 2008). Folk art fascinates, perhaps because it proves that producing utilitarian objects can provide the opportunity for self-expression by generally self-taught artists. From decoys to doll houses, from scrimshaw to sea chests, from weathervanes to whirligigs, folk artists find wonderment in the workaday, transforming the mundane to the marvelous

I liked how they mapped out and organized key museums in Maine. Great for someone who lives outside of Maine and would like to visit and do a museum tour.

Book very nicely done. Nicely organized and great folk art examples.
