Modern Art in Churches. The Rt. Rev Richard Harries. In my book, The Image of Christ in Art, I treat artists in a chronological manner from the German expressionists up to the present day. This talk takes a sub-theme of the book. It is not the same one as I gave at Barnard’s Inn Hall a few weeks ago – it takes a sub-theme, and it is focusing only on those works of art which have been commissioned and appear in cathedrals or churches. So, I am not including, in this lecture, images that are in private collections or in museums.
