The book describes the origins of snipers in the trenches of the First World .

The book describes the origins of snipers in the trenches of the First World War when the art of picking off the enemy from a distance - and innovative methods to counter the threat - were first developed. British sniper Sergeant Harry Furness, who claimed 117 German kills as the Allies fought through Europe after D-Day, described the animosity felt towards snipers. The tactic to outwit German snipers is said to have saved the lives of more than 3,500 Allied troops. The explorer and big game hunter also founded the First Army School of Sniping in 1916 and later that year he was awarded the Military Cross.
