I purchased the First 100 years of Jazz as a class requirement
I purchased the First 100 years of Jazz as a class requirement. I was not really a fan of jazz until I heard this CD. I really enjoyed the variety of jazz choices. I have many other gripes about this book, but those are two of the big ones for me. The writer also omitted many famous female jazz artists, and didn't even really bother to include them on the history 'timelines' throughout the book because yeah, they're so jazzy! I hate this book, hehe. It's also just not written very well, in my opinion.
A complete jazz course: a great book and a complete listening package at one unbeatable price. Includes all the music in the book and the Jazz Audio Primer Aimed specifically at non-majors, this brief text explores the development of jazz from its nineteenth-century roots in ragtime and blues, through swing and bebop, to fusion and contemporary jazz styles.

By the end of the decade, bandleaders Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Kenton were carrying auxiliary percussionists on tour with them to play the portion of their repertory devoted to Latin American styles.
