Designed as a companion volume to 2006's Inside the Ring, which focused on the four operas comprising Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen, this new volume features more than a dozen original essays focusing on all of Wagner's non-Ring operas. Part One looks at the individual operas, including Der Fliegende Hollander, Tannhauser, Lohengrin, Tristan und Isolde, Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg, and Parsifal.

John Louis DiGaetani (born 1943) is a Professor of English at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York . Wagner Outside the Ring: Essays on the Operas, Their Performance, and Their Connections with Other Arts. He received his BA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, his MA from Northern Illinois University, and his P. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. DiGaetani's published works include studies on modern British literature, modern American literature, opera, and the connections between literature and music.
