Astrid Kirchherr and Max Scheler's book YESTERDAY: THE BEATLES ONCE UPON A TIME is a wonderful book filled with black and white .

Astrid Kirchherr and Max Scheler's book YESTERDAY: THE BEATLES ONCE UPON A TIME is a wonderful book filled with black and white pictures of the fab four on the set of A Hard Day's Night. There's introduction by Kirchherr and Scheler about how the photos came to be. The only thing that's missing is captions for each picture, which would've been nice. What I really like about the book is that it gives the reader a glimpse into the past and what life must have been like back then.

A wonderful bonus is Astrid's introduction which provides information about these early days that was news even to this life-long Beatles fanatic! Yesterday: The Beatles Once Upon a Time. (Book). Yesterday: The Beatles Once Upon A Time documents the Beatles and the city of their birth during the making of their first film, A Hard Day's Night , in 1964. It captures the rhythm and texture of the tough English port city where the smell of cigarettes and seawater mingled and the strains of pop music were transformed by an early 1960s music scene that gave birth to the Mersey Beat and the greatest band of all time. Before they achieved world fame, the Beatles perfected their craft in another port of call, the northern German city of Hamburg. There they met Astrid Kirchherr, a budding photographer who became close friends with the band and later was engaged to the Beatles' original bass player, Stuart Sutcliffe. Some four years later by which time the Beatles had conquered the world Kirchherr, with Max Scheler, visited the band and took the photographs that appear in this book. Kirchherr and Scheler focused on the Beatles in private and public moments, during the filming, and also on the city itself, on the streets, the music scene, the people, evoking for us today the gritty humor and passion of 1960s Liverpudlians. This book offers a moving testament to the inspirational effect of the Beatles' success on their hometown as well as an important chapter of the Beatles' almost-mythic story.

The Beatles' old friend Astrid, whom they met in Hamburg Germany during their pre-Ringo days has taken some nonpareil photographs of the boys. This book is a treasure trove for Beatle fans. There are many previously unpublished photos which will no doubt delight inveterate Beatle fans.

Astrid, credited for giving the boys their iconic moptop coiffure has included pictures of the homes where the Beatles grew up. My personal favorite were pictures of the senior Harrisons in their living room, which was festooned with pictures of George, some of which were life-sized that fans had sent them.

This delightful book captures an innocence about early 1964, the Ford Falcon Era and the Year of the Beatles. Readers will undoubtedly love Astrid's introduction which describes the Beatles' salad days of 1960-61, just before their meteoric rise to unprecedented musical fame! I give this one a hearty yeah, yeah, yeah! I really love it!

Astrid Kirchherr and Max Scheler's book YESTERDAY: THE BEATLES ONCE UPON A TIME is a wonderful book filled with black and white pictures of the fab four on the set of A Hard Day's Night. It also shows George and Ringo at home in Liverpool visiting their parents after they made it big.

Another great thing about the big is that there are pictures of other bands that performed at the famous "Cavern" and great pictures of the audience with girls and their big bouffant hair-dos as well as pictures of the streets in Liverpool and the kids playing in them.

The book is nice and large and the pictures are printed on high quality, heavy stock paper. There's introduction by Kirchherr and Scheler about how the photos came to be. The only thing that's missing is captions for each picture, which would've been nice.

What I really like about the book is that it gives the reader a glimpse into the past and what life must have been like back then. I highly recommend it to Beatle fans and anyone who enjoys great photography!

If you are a Beatles keenie and would enjoy seeing previously unpublished photos of the boys, this book is for you. It's a unique, bittersweet collection showing the joy and innocence which characterized the group's very early days together. A wonderful bonus is Astrid's introduction which provides information about these early days that was news even to this life-long Beatles fanatic!

If you like (love) the Beatles, you will like (love) this book by their very good friend, Astrid Kirchherr. You missed out on being young in the 1960's and living in Germany and being wild, carefree, and young. Astrid was a photographer and she was young like them and they let her take all these pictures before they were who they became. The pics are great, The book is great.

If you really like (love) the Beatles, this will be a nice piece to add to your collection.

(Excuse the Rolling Stone reference in the Subject Line)

I gave this to my friend and he says he has been waiting for this book for years, he is very happy with it.
I was hoping to see some of Astrid's early shots of the Beatles in Hamburg, but these shots are from the filming of "Hard Day's Night." Astrid wrote the foreword. But hey, it's the Fab Four in their innocent (?) youth and the pictures are great.
