ADVANCING AMERICAN ART,'' at the William Benton Museum in Storrs, is a show certain to provoke discussion. But it can scarcely aspire to the uproar it caused when first presented, in 1946, as proof to the world that America was not all military might and Hollywood movies, but a country capable of culture, also. William Benton, who as Assistant Secretary of State had taken most of the punishment, resigned. The exhibit will remain at Storrs through May 6. The greatest art in the world would be an anticlimax after such Sturm und Drang, and none of these pictures are masterpieces.
