I had bought this book in 1992 (in paper back) to help me in the books I was reading because at that time I was studying Philosophy at Texas A&M University. I earned my degree. It was a great BOOK until I wore it out(duct tape worked for me like the Apollo Astronauts). About the new book. On the cover it clearly has "MARX b41 1942" in the cover it has "WITHDRAWN PRINCETON UNIVERSITY LIBRARY". I sure hope the seller didn't steal this book to sell it to me. I emailed the seller to ask if it was on the up and up. NO REPLY! So it's a great book if it's not HOT!!! I will let you take it from there. Best of Luck.

Dagobert Runes dictionary of philosophy comes highly recommended. A time tested classic! I prefer it over the Cambridge dictionary of philosophy. Everything a beginner to intermediate philosophy student needs. Clear, concise and doesn't leave your head spinning. The modern dictionaries are so specialized in detail that they tend to lose the big picture.

This work contains some interesting information, and can be used as a source in researching particular topics. But it , in my opinion, was never really comprehensive enough. And having had its most recent edition close to fifty years ago is not up-to- date.

The Dictionary of Philosophy by Dagobert D. Runes (Philosophical Library: Concise Dictionaries: Citadel Press) (Hardcover) For many years a non parallel Dictionary of philosophy, it still holds up especially in logic and mid-twentieth century assessment of philosophical debate. Not to be over-looked.

As far as I can tell, this book has not been updated since the publication of the 15th edition in 1960. Nevertheless, although it is not up to date I would not call it "outdated," since it provides a snapshot the philosophical concerns of its day. In this respect, it is especially helpful when one is reading anglo-american philosophy of the early twentieth-century. It is also quite good, in my opinion, in terms of achieving the appropriate balance of breadth and depth for a philosophical dictionary.
