Zeller managed to sum up what everyone else had said in his time about the figures of ancient philosophy, and then . Even though I took a . degree in philosophy back in 1975, this book is a great memory-booster and source of new information. I can understand why it's remained a classic.

I don't think anyone has ever duplicated that feat. We've moved on in the last century and a half, but you can always do much worse than tomstart with Zeller.

Now old, but a classic in the field. Zeller managed to sum up what everyone else had said in his time about the figures of ancient philosophy, and then to add to others' contributions. I don't think anyone has ever duplicated that feat. We've moved on in the last century and a half, but you can always do much worse than tomstart with Zeller.

It would have been five stars, but the formatting for the Kindle versions is clumsy and hard to use.

I own a paperback copy of this book, and I was cleaning out my shelves, and though I might replace it with the Kindle version to save physical space.
I read the sample first, and I am so glad- the Kindle version is full of gibberish typographical errors, probably because somebody lazily just scanned the text and did not proofread it.

Very shoddy formatting, and definitely not worth the 3.00 price they are asking for. Until they clean up the text, this isn't even a good choice as a free book.

Even though I took a B.A. degree in philosophy back in 1975, this book is a great memory-booster and source of new information. I can understand why it's remained a classic.
