Dominic is a sixteen year-old man-child: while he has the body of a prize-fighter, as a result of a terrible seizure when he was a small child he has been left with the mind of a child. In the centre where he spends his days, Dominic is a challenge and an inspiration: someone who struggles against the odds and whose every victory over his limitations is a cause for celebration. Wednesday's Child was his first book and other books include Crying in the Dark, Hush, Little Baby, The Boy in the Cupboard, Will Mummy Be Coming Back for Me?, Little Boy Lost and The Girl Who Couldn't Smile.

I was there to talk to the staff about the Byrne twins. The house looked as if Norman Bates’s mother lived there, and I found it difficult to believe that it was in fact a residential children’s home

Crying In The Dark book. In 15 years as a child protection worker, Shane Dunphy saw children growing up in horrific situations. He also saw their amazing ability to survive those unpromising beginnings. In this book, he tells four heartbreaking true stories of damaged children and of his battle to help them.

I put my arms around her and let her cry. The sobs wracked her small frame as nearly fourteen years of pain and loss finally bubbled to the surface. There was nothing I could do but let her pour it all out, and I knelt there on the tatty carpet in the darkness and held her.

Well-written and easy to immerse yourself in, this book has a brutal honesty about situations that too many people experience personally. Please read the author's note at the conclusion of the book.

breaks my heart that children suffer. well written. I like the way he creates a story out of these cases, but story or not, the facts are sad.

I thought that reading all three were very interesting. I could see how it could be almost typical of any case. one would know this if working with children.

I choose this book because I like stories that help others out. This book jumped all over with three different stories..better off just writing three short stories..didn't care for it
As childcare worker myself and now a Youth worker I really appreciate Shane Dunphy's books. His writting is superb, emotional and raw. His books contain so many horrors that most people don't wish to know about and pretend it's not happening in their streets!
Well done for writing All of your books and giving people the opportunity to comprehend how some children are living.
