A teenage-populated cocaine distribution ring in New York City's Spanish Harlem is probed by the author, a sociologist, who for almost five years observed its routines. Williams proffers no quick solution to the drug crisis, but rather an illumination, in their own words, of damaged urban youth," remarked PW, calling this "a sobering picture of the dangerous, lucrative trade.

I purchased the 'Cocaine Kids' for a class I took as a prequisite towards my Criminal Justice degree. Though, I felt a bit discouraged with the title...the intro took me right into the real life story of different minds that chose to all have one thing in common...cocaine. Different paths come together in a fast life where they reap mountain peaks of temporal financial heights. The story depicts real life moments of happiness, sadness, excitement, growing up without direction, but above all...there was a very important trait to never let go of and that was...self respect. Self respect of oneself regardless of the changes this group of associates endured throughout their experiences amongst each other and with each other. This is a must read for anyone who is taking such a course, but it is also a must read for anyone who is looking to understand why the young go this route regardless of where they come from...urban society or suburbia.

Let me start by saying that i very rarely read books, but this book is very good. Might be the fact that it takes place around my area (new york). I dont like reading books, but read this entire book in 2 days, it sucks you in and you just want to keep reading it. Great book.
