Pierre Bourdieu is best known as one of the world's leading sociologists. Containing his famous addresses to the assembled media masses, this work addresses both social movement activists and the establishment itself.

Pierre Bourdieu, described by The Nation as worthy of the militant mantle of Sartre and Foucault, here continues the themes advanced so successfully in his previous book Acts of Resistance. Globalization’s threat to artists and intellectuals-and how they can rebut it. Bordieu once again selects the right targets and, as always, has much to say that is incisive and enlightening.

Pierre Bourdieu, described by "The Nation" as worthy of the militant mantle of Sartre and Foucault, here continues the themes advanced so successfully in his previous book "Acts of Resistance. Firing Back" is an eloquent dissection of globalization s intellectual and cultural role throughout the world, and a discussion of the ways in which effective opposition to it can be mounted.

Pierre Bourdieu (French: ; 1 August 1930 – 23 January 2002) was a French sociologist, anthropologist, philosopher and public intellectual.

Pierre Bourdieu, described by The Nation as "worthy of the militant mantle of Sartre and Foucault," here continues the themes advanced so successfully in his previous book Acts of Resistance. Firing Back is an eloquent dissection of globalization's intellectual and cultural role throughout the world, and a discussion of the ways in which effective opposition to it can be mounted.

In this series of trenchant essays, Pierre Bourdieu continues the urgent project begun in Acts of Resistance. Dissecting the claims of neoliberalism, Bordieu calls for an international social movement capable of forming a counterforce to the project of capitalist globalisation.

Bourdieu is sharp and to the point. A sociologist who knows the shape of ideas. He does a great job explaining neo liberalism and what harm it does to our planet and different societies. Please take time to read this short pertinent book.

Academic objectivity is a great excuse to avoid taking sides. PB presents a clear challenge to that excuse with this argument. Compare this with the argument from "Empire" and "Multitudes" (Hardt and Negri). A critique of their hypothesis runs along PB's approach and it does not seem to resolve in my mind. Both are difficult and rather abstract. I would normally retreat to narrative analysis and seek escape and avoid taking sides! PB presents the inescapable dilemma. This calls for a rereading of "Pascalian Meditations".

Short but very thought provoking as always.
