I purchased book in new condition. There is a lot to read and it's mainly in paragraph form. Much of the information covered was on the test. As another reviewer stated there's a section in the book that's not tested-Social Studies. I knew my weakest area(s) was possibly math and definitely science. I really spent some time reading the science section. Know the types of rocks and the planets. Math sections was helpful, however, the test had mainly scenario type questions and there were a few actual problem based questions, so you'll need to know how to solve math problems.
I can't really discuss what was on my test, but the math section with graphs and number sense was useful. The math section of the book was helpful for me. You will want to know the writing skills/stages, and child development stages-Piaget. I found mnemonics to help me remember the stages order, age, and what it consists of. The book also includes one practice test with answers and explanations--I wish there were at least 2 practice tests. I did find some typo errors here and there.
There are secrets to testing included to help you study better, helpful strategies, and a link for additional bonus material. Throughout the book you will find websites to Review videos to further your understanding of the topic. I appreciated that because some of the material I needed a visual to help me process the information I read. The sites are all Mometrix, so feel confident in knowing that.
Overall, I liked the book, and it has a lot of information. There were sections of the book that I skipped as it pertained to daycare workers or early childhood programs. Much of it did not relate to the PreK-3 test I signed up for. I felt like those looking to work in a daycare or early childhood to age 5 or 6, would benefit most from this FTCE Secrets book. I'm sure there were sections that helped me. Much of the information I may have learned while in school and/or as well as working with elementary students for 2 yrs. I studied for about 2 weeks. I passed all sections of the FTCE PreK-3 test. P.S. Bring a quick healthy snack (banana, peanuts, etc) to consume during your short break. The tests are long. Good Luck!

Just as the title for this review reads... I PASSED! Now, here's my review and why I *think* you should consider this book.

The book has 101 worth of study material. There are no numbered chapter per se, just sections, some quite a few pages long, some, only a couple. There are no pictures, but for me personally, I didn't really need them. All I did was read this book this past week, say, 15-20 pages each day, and on Saturday (the day of my test), I took the sample test, two pages at a time (about 14 questions or so per two pages), because I was kind of cutting it short on time. Every two pages, I would check my answers in the back of the book, and after about 4 pages, I had to stop because I needed to go and get ready for the test. I got about 68% correct, so even then I felt confident (the NCSF Personal Trainer exam required a 62% passing).

The back part of the book explains each answer in great detail. Maybe someone out there might be able to pass the exam just by going over the practice test and answers, who knows? Anyway, so I get ready and drive all the way to the test center. I got there about 15 minutes before the 30 minutes they ask you to arrive before your test time, and I quickly read more of the answers. Once it was time, I went into the test center and began my test.

Now, I am not allowed to tell you what's on the test. However, I can tell you that most of it is NOT in this book. Now, I can imagine you're asking yourself, "Why in the world would I buy this book if most of its contents aren't on the test?". I'm not sure if there's subliminal messages in this book, but I somehow knew the answers to most of the questions right away. I somehow knew the answers to some specific questions that I would normally forget. Also, and I believe someone else mentioned this in their review, but the practice test in this book is much more difficult than the actual test! I guess that's a good thing.

So, how did I pass? Like I said, I read this book in exactly the way I described. I didn't even take the entire practice test. I was so confident in my answers, I only marked 3 for review, and I finished the test with a little over an hour to spare (the test is supposed to take 2 1/2 hours). Now, it also helped that I have been a teacher for almost six full school years, and that I am a special education teacher at that. I have also taken the English 6-12 test as well as the Elementary grades test, heck, even the NCSF exam (which I missed by only 1 percentage point, ouch). The NCSF exam is waaaaay more difficult than this one.

There you have it. If you feel confident in purchasing the book after reading my review, please hit the Like or Thanks button. This book worked for me, and I feel it was written in a way that I was able to answer the questions confidently and quickly. Oh, by the way, there will be questions on the test that come from way out of left field, I'm talking about super-random stuff that I don't think any study guide will prepare you for. Use common sense, and get ready to pass!

Your product is the most thorough in both information and test taking suggestions.
I have not seen any other (when searching for the best to use) that include video references.
The information you provide is detailed and the tests are beyond helpful - For example, I was not aware of the different areas I will be tested on in Art (such as essays).  Not to mention your staff, for lack of a better word to use, is absolutely incredible and awesome.  It is rare to that companies provide such personable support.  I appreciate THAT more than anything!

I passed but since they are revamping the test as of May 2018, I'm not sure how well this will do for you. I did take my test in April of this year and the content was applicable. To be honest, I mostly buy these for the practice exams.

I only need to take the Language Arts and Reading part of the FTCE. When I received the cards I had several different categories and they don’t tell you which cards go to which test subject. An example is child growth and development, children and families diagnosis, assessment and evaluation and lastly diverse needs for all children. They are informative but I don’t know which ones to study. The FTCE book is a better resource.

The math and science section was not enough to help me pass the exams. Your study book has only 15 maths questions and about the same for science. The actual exams have 50 questions. So I am still studying other materials to try and pass these two exams no to mention the extra cost of $200 for retaking the exams.
Any suggestions!
