After graduating from Kyoto University Masaaki Kosaka made a special study of the history of philosophy under Dr. Kitaro Nishida. He came to be known as the chief scholar of the so called Kyoto Academic School. After graduating from Kyoto University Masaaki Kosaka made a special study of the history of philosophy under Dr. Masaaki was purged at the end of the war in 1946 and after being depurged was re-appointed professor at Kyoto University in 1955.

Kitarō Nishida was a philosopher of the Meiji, Taishd, and early Showa periods. It is important as the first original and independent system to emerge from Japanese philosophy, which had hitherto been completely dominated by systems of thought introduced from abroad.

Kitarō Nishida (西田 幾多郎, Nishida Kitarō, May 19, 1870 – June 7, 1945) was a prominent Japanese philosopher, founder of what has been called the Kyoto School of philosophy. He graduated from the University of Tokyo during the Meiji period in 1894 with a degree in philosophy. He was named professor of the Fourth Higher School in Ishikawa Prefecture in 1899 and later became professor of philosophy at Kyoto University. Nishida retired in 1927.
