The Global Soul book. The book is mostly about how as a global soul, or a permanent alien wherever he goes, Pico Iyer finds himself lacking an identity, a sense of belonging. And the book seems to be further about how he makes peace with that fact, a process through which he tends to help the reader make up his mind about the same. As someone who never had a feeling of home tied "The sense of home is not divided, but scattered across the planet, and in the absence of any center at all, people find themselves at se.

Siddharth Pico Raghavan Iyer (born 11 February 1957), known as Pico Iyer, is a British-born essayist and novelist, often known for his travel writing. He is the author of numerous books on crossing cultures including Video Night in Kathmandu, The Lady and the Monk and The Global Soul.

Pico Iyer is the author of five previous books, including THE LADY AND THE MONK and VIDEO . To the author, the concept of the global soul is flexible

He lives in suburban Japan. To the author, the concept of the global soul is flexible. It could mean someone who, like the international consultant who carries five different plane tickets at all times, calls the road home, or it could represent the citizen who combines a multicultural past with an equally colorful present. For a Global Soul like me-for anyone born in several cultures-the challenge in the modern world is to find a city that speaks to as many of our homes as possible," Iyer writes.

Pico Iyer has for many years described with keen perception and exacting wit the shifting textures of faraway lands anchored on a spinning globe that mixes and matches East and West. Now he casts a philosophical eye upon this curious state of floatingness. In the transnational village that our world has become, travel and technology fuel each other and us. As Iyer points out, "everywhere is so made up of everywhere else," and our very souls have been put into circulation. Yet even global beings need a home.

Iyer's book was quite useful to me because I've always been a global soul at heart. The anecdotes in "The Global Soul", in contrast, only tell me more about Iyer himself. Too much introspection, too little description. Way too much repetition. I love to travel and experience new cultures, and I feel at home in lots of different places. A few of my friends understand this because they too love to travel, etc. But many other people I know have a hard time understanding why I can't unpack my bags and stay in one place. The book gave me some clues to my own vagabonding. The Global Soul" is an interesting magazine article (which I think I read somewhere) stretched into a very thin book.
