Laubach Way to Reading is an outstanding method, but this used copy was not as clean as I had expected. The previous student had completed some of the answers in ink. I had to use White Out on the answers and then run them through a copier so my student wouldn't have to write on top of the white-out. My college-aged friend (for whom I bought this book) used this Laubach Way to Reading Skill Book 1 to help an Arab woman who had never been to school. Now, only two months later, she can read and write the entire English alphabet, plus many simple words.

We are not workbook people. A basic book from the 80's. My son will actually do it and likes it. For us, this book has not produced any tears.

The formation of letters is illustrated well and easy for children to understand. The order in which the letters are presented and the combination of letters to make words is well done. Sentence structure, grammar, letter writing, and check writing are incorporated with the cursive writing which make it meaningful for children.

I obtained this and the teacher's book from the local Community College for tutoring a 69 year old Arab. Having worked for an American Oil Company he was familiar with English, but needed help with cursive writing. I immediately recognized the Laubach system was giving students the most universally, easily recognized letter forms. My student knew he had to start by drawing the letters, and with practice he would soon be writing, and writing well. I was so pleased with this book, and my student's efforts. I strongly recommend the Laubach system for teaching cursive writing.
