Alison E. Holm, Barbara Dodd. Sensitivity to Rhymes, Syllables, and Phonemes in Literacy Acquisition in Portuguese. Cláudia Cardoso-Martins.

To perform the three tasks competently, participants had to think beyond print while analyzing speech (Moats & Lyon, 1996, p. 83); that is, they needed to consider the phonological properties of words while viewing their printed forms. This level of awareness exceeds what is necessary for competent reading and writing (Moats & Lyon, 1996).

This manual contains 18 sequential, cumulative units of phonemic awareness drills intended for use by teachers or speech-language pathologists. Each drill can be followed with phoneme-grapheme correspondence and word-building activities using sounds and letters cards.

I love this book so much that when I loaned mine out I bought another......now I do not ever let anyone have it! One copy for me, and one copy for my aide! You do not need this book to do the activities, but it is well organized and makes it so you do not have to come up with words and drills on your own. We spend five to ten minutes in this book daily and the benefits ore amazing! I teach kindergarten and recommend it to everyone I mentor!

I tutor children who especially have challenges with phonemic awareness. It can be tricky to track sounds, and this book helps children do so in a variety of ways. Especially like the letter substitution and rhyming, but all activities are very helpful. But haven't used the "pig latin" exercises yet. My students have trouble enough with substituting other sounds.

Lots of useful information that can be incorporated into a first grade curriculum and other grade levels.
At the price of almost $200, templates should be included!

This book sequentially and developmentally presents phonemic awareness skills. I would highly recommend to any kindergarten and first grade teacher as a great direct instruction addition. (And all at risk readers) It is quick (5-10 minutes daily) and all you need is the book and control of a listening group of children!

Hard-to-find book, but glad to have a copy on hand to review what my child is learning in tutoring sessions.

This book is great for teachers! I use it with my struggling readers to work on vowel sounds and rhymes.

Great resource for phonemic awareness.
This drill book is exactly what my kids needed. I add a little game to it to strengthen the impact by reminding them that I will win and we play for points. They laugh, but I have more people paying attention. If one person says the wrong thing, I get the point. It really has made them stop to think about what I am saying and/or asking for.
