Each chapter concludes with a set of exercises to help readers apply the chapter material to everyday life and engage in a step-by-step process to increase their own media literacy. Format Paperback 544 pages.

Media Literacy introduces students to the fascinating world that operates behind media messages.

Examples and exercises are used to support the key ideas, while students are invited to analyze media from the points of view of a psychologist, an economist, an advertiser, a journalist, a media critic, a producer and a policymaker. This approach enables them to establish knowledge structures from which they can discern between the media effects which are positive - and have value as instruction or entertainment - and those which are negative.

This was one of the best and most general media literacy books that I used in college. While it did go into detail in some areas, it seemed that others were too simple and needed to be expanded on. I'd rate it above some of the other textbooks I had, and it got the job done, but just could have used a liiiiittle more.

Whom ever had the book before me was AWESOME!! Each chapter was already tabbed for me and it made my life just a little bit easier on those late night study sessions. I received my book in a timely manner. In fact, it came Memorial Day weekend just in time for my first exam the following Tuesday.

Excellent book! Perfect for introducing new concepts in media literacy. I highly recommend it if you want to generate discussions in the class and you want your students to relate the content to their own experiences.

It's an easy read and the content is interesting and well organized.

I liked this book. I read it for a class, but really took in the purpose of the book.
That is, for people to become aware of the importance of media literacy. 3 stars.

Not a terrible book... just not something that needs to be quite so long. It's a very easy read. I used this book in an introductory college class and didn't get much out of it. I should have looked for some sparknotes to sum this book up because I'm sure each chapter can be summed up in a page.

(I say all of this from the standpoint of a Computer Science major)
The book was cheap and was in great condition. The shipping wasn't super fast but pretty quick.
