Description

Family Law. 'Ost puts forward a new approach to tackle the harms of child pornography and sexual grooming .

Family Law. 'Ost puts forward a new approach to tackle the harms of child pornography and sexual grooming rationally and effectively. a decidedly valuable contribution to the literature and debates on sex offending against children. pushes her materials in new directions to argue that we should be less concerned with child sexual abuse and also consider the various other ways that children are exploited. Crucial in all of this is her contention that we need to abandon the dominant social construct of childhood vulnerability and, instead, empower children to let them explain how childhood should be understood and experienced.

Child pornography and sexual grooming provide case study exemplars of problems that society and law have . This book examines and discusses the ordeals that women face as violence is perpetrated against them in politically conflicted and militarized areas.

Child pornography and sexual grooming provide case study exemplars of problems that society and law have sought to tackle to avoid both actual and potential harm to children.

Laws and policies that make violent behaviour an offence send a message to society that it is not acceptable. While nearly all governments around the world have laws against most forms of homicide, recently more governments have begun to enact and implement laws against non-lethal intimate partner violence. More rigorous evaluations of interventions that address social norms are needed. Norms can protect against violence, but they can also support and encourage the use of it.

The book concludes with advice and encouragement for future legal professionals.

Describe the functionalist view of deviance in society and compare . All societies practise social control, the regulation and enforcement of norms.

Describe the functionalist view of deviance in society and compare Durkheim’s views with social disorganization theory, control theory, and strain theory. Explain how critical sociology understands deviance and crime in society. In the study of crime and deviance, the sociologist often confronts a legacy of entrenched beliefs concerning either the innate biological disposition or the individual psychopathology of persons considered abnormal: the criminal personality, the sexual or gender deviant, the disabled or ill person, the addict, or the mentally unstable individual.

Child pornography and sexual grooming provide case study exemplars of problems that society and law have sought to tackle to avoid both actual and potential harm to children. Yet despite the considerable legal, political and societal concern that these critical phenomena attract, they have not, thus far, been subjected to detailed socio-legal and theoretical scrutiny. How do society and law construct the harms of child pornography and grooming? What impact do constructions of the child have upon legal and societal responses to these phenomena? What has been the impetus behind the expanding criminalisation of behaviour in these areas? Suzanne Ost addresses these and other important questions, exploring the critical tensions within legal and social discourses which must be tackled to discourage moral panic reactions towards child pornography and grooming, and advocating a new, more rational approach towards combating these forms of exploitation.

This is the best and most objective source of information with regards this topic I have come across. The absolute insight into three countries': England, Canada, USA and the UN (comparisons) and references to hundreds of other sources in this field makes it a well researched source with valid new insights. A must read for Judges, advocates, lawyers, clergymen, headmasters, teachers and of course teachers. And I want to congratulate Amazon.com for making it available to the world. PS. Universities all over the world will of course also benefit and the police force and not to mention Interpol. I read it on my Kindle I bought from Amazon.

This is a difficult subject for any writer or academic to take on. It is an even more difficult subject to find published research on if you are somehow involved in working in this area.

Accordingly to find a well research, balanced and thoughtful treatment of the topic is not only a pleasant surprise but a valuable resource. Indeed the text is so well prepared that a reader would probably not have to go to other material to find what they need here.

A good foundation for policy or enforcement development
