Dangerous Waters book.

Dangerous Waters book. McKenna easily handles the vario It's been a while since I read a Juliet E McKenna novel, but I thoroughly enjoyed the quintet of novels that made up The Tales of Einarinn, and felt it was long overdue picking up a new one. When I saw that Dangerous Waters was the start in a new series by McKenna, I thought this was a great chance to try this talented lady author again. Dangerous Waters is a great example of traditional fantasy, from the faux Medieval setting and the corsairs and the mage powers.

Juliet E. McKenna is the renowned author of The Tales of Einarinn series and The Aldabreshin Compass series. Dangerous Waters (2011) is the first Fantasy novel in the Hadrumal Crisis series. Dangerous Waters marks the start of a major new fantasy series. It is set in the same universe as the Einarinn,Aldabreshin Compass and Lescari Revolution series and follows Banners in the Wind. Long ago, Nemith the Reckless attacked the Mountain Men of Gidestan to obtain the gold and silver believed to be plentiful there.

There’s fruit rolls, my lady, that Doratine put by for you,’ Raselle said breathlessly, ‘and cheese and cold bacon. She clutched a makeshift bag knotted from kitchen muslin. Anxious, she offered a leather flagon with a matching cup for a top tied to the handle by plaited thong, such as a horseman might take on the road. Let me set breakfast for.

The Green Man’s Foe is the second in a fantasy series but you could dive into it without having read the first (though I recommend it!).

The Chronicles of the Lescari Revolution. The Aldabreshin Compass. The Green Man’s Foe is the second in a fantasy series but you could dive into it without having read the first (though I recommend it!). It’s one of McKenna’s particular strength: she lets you catch up with ease. For those of you coming back to it, you’ll be delighted to know that Dan is back and in fine form, along with all the things that made The Green Man’s Heir so entertaining.

The Archmage rules the island of wizards, enforcing a ban on the use of magecraft in warfare. But there is a rumour of rogue wizardry abroad, its adepts not subject to the Archmage's edicts.

Bought this one after reading a freebie 'The wizard's coming'. Plodded through all of it: fights, slavery, magic and intrigues. 'Dangerous Waters' have them all.

And I just couldn't make myself care. None of the characters are likeable, I felt more interested in what was happening to my friend's cat (yawn) then in the DW events. I kept on reading, hopping that it will come together, that characters will redeem themselves by doing something for everyones good and not just to further their own agenda. Maybe in the next book, I won't be buying it though.

Potentially good book that fizzled from the lack of depth.

One good point - cover artwork is fantastic!

Another great series from Juliet E McKenna. Anyone who has read the previous series' will undoubtedly find themselves submerged yet again into the Einarinn world.

This deeply involved book begins a new trilogy, set in the same world as the author's previous efforts. It is as deeply involved and intrigued as one might expect, full of plot twists and wizardly magic..Well written, engrossing, and finely detailed.
