Jerry Pournelle West of Honor. This is a work of fiction.

Jerry Pournelle West of Honor.

Sounds standard space opera, but Jerry Pournelle is an intelligent and thoughtful writer, there's a whole lot more to the story than these basics. Deriving it's impetus from the 'military sf' genre - which Pournelle, if he didn't invent, certainly took to prominence West of Honor (is there a clue in the title?) starts as a Space Western. In an anti-technology future on a frontier planet struggling ranchers are menaced by marauding bandits.

After Jerry Pournelle's death, a friend recommended that I take a look at this series.

After Jerry Pournelle's death, a friend recommended that I take a look at this series. This was a good read, and was written by someone who has been there and writes with authority about it.

Simple fellow Simple fellow
I'm a lousy reviewer but I don't need to be good to say that this is typical Jerry Pournelle. The book is a gripper at the start and demands you attention until all of a sudden it's finished. One of the best reads I've had in a long time.

Pournelle is indeed the true master of military science fiction. And don't forget the Haven series which are based on the same world.

As pertinent and thought provoking today as it was when it was first written and as it will be well into the future...prescient is the word I'd use...and a damn fine read!

The formation of Falkenburg's Legion. A rousing tale that leads to a satisfying ending. No happily ever after, but more battles in the future. I recommenf it.

Forerunner to the mercenary series, and better than most of those.
Well written military Scifi. Nice page turner when you are looking for a good read.
