This is a retelling of the continuing adventures of What Would Jesus Do?, the retelling of In His Steps. The chapters are very short and the some of the names of the characters are different as well, but I remember reading this as a child and really enjoying it. At the end of the book there are questions for each chapter. The illustrations are vibrant.

Mack Thomas (a pen name) has written many children’s books, including What Would Jesus Do? With more than a million and a half copies of his books sold, three have been awarded the ECPA Gold Medallion. He is the father of five adult children.

Thomas is probably doing much of the same thing where ever he is at that moment. I wonder how Thomas continued to deal with the situation. Did it begin to wear on him? Did he return home in the evening begging God to show him that what his friends were saying was true? Was he beginning to turn cold toward the others?

But without wisdom, imagination is a cruel taskmaster. Mack looked down once more at the water and breathed a huge sigh of the soul.

He was talking about walking across on the water. Jesus, anticipating his hesitation, asserted, C’mon, Mack. If Peter can do it. Mack laughed, more out of nerves than anything. But without wisdom, imagination is a cruel taskmaster. If I may prove my case, do you think humans were designed to live in the present or the past or the future? Well, said Mack, hesitating, I think the most obvious answer is that we were designed to live in the present.

My 6 & 7 year old boys LOVE this book! It's an interesting story, packed with lots of adventure to keep their interest. At the same time, it challenges them to consider the question, "What would Jesus do?" in every situation faced by the characters, modeling a simple faith of praying for big things and expecting God to answer in big ways.

We've collected all the Mack Thomas books and wish there were many more. My daughter loves the simple stories and pictures. They've been great books to teach character lessons in an enjoyable way.

I made the mistake of leaving my old cassette in the sun and the case warped. I was so glad to find this replacement! The kids I watch will be thrilled to be able to listen to the story again.

This was purchased for 5 - 10 year olds. I am teaching them how to reason out their actions to each other.

Our 10 and 5 year old sons were completely engaged in this exciting story, a second adventure incorporating the same characters from What Would Jesus Do?. Their response was the same with the first book: they begged for more. (And, it was a story this mom loved reading as well.)
Both books were surprises to me, with some challenging issues addressed: greed, obedience, failure, judgment, loss, unfairness, discouragement, prayer, forgiveness, salvation, standing firm, being fearless, repentance, loving our enemies, evangelism, friendship, sacrifice, love... all wrapped in language children, and adults, can understand and relate to. I personally was touched and convicted by both stories.
There are also questions in the back (listed by chapter) which help in comprehension and in relating the story to our own lives.
Girls and boys alike would like these stories as there are characters in both books that they can relate to.
What better model than Jesus is there to turn to for each decision or circumstance we face as well as the attitudes and actions we choose? These books point to the Source reminding each of us to ask, "What would Jesus Do?"
