Elizabeth G. Elizabeth Glendinning Kirkwood Hewat (16 September 1895 – 13 October 1968) was the first woman to graduate BD and PhD at New College, University of Edinburgh, a missionary, a campaigner for women's equality in the Church of Scotland, and an historian of Scottish missions.

Elizabeth Hewat (born Usher) was born on month day 1852, at birth place, to George USHER and Caroline Usher (born Gaisford). George was born in 1823, in Eastern Cape, South Africa. Caroline was born circa 1822, in Wiltshire, England

Elizabeth was baptized on month day 1858, at baptism place. She had one brother: Thomas Henry Usher. Elizabeth married Andrew Duxbury Hewat on month day 1873, at age 21 at marriage place. Andrew was born on October 22 1839, in Dublin, Ireland. They had 11 children: Amy Bunting (born Hewat), William Duxbury "Duxie" Thomas Hewat and 9 other children.

Truth be told, before I settled in to read Secret Stairs I had no idea an urban legend involving mysterious staircases existed. I find it an odd concept, but I suppose that's the point: if it was mundane there wouldn't be much to talk - or write - about. Each story, individual in it's own right, lets you easily move to the next without feeling too much like you're left hanging, although there is roo Don't let the length of this book deter you! This is a wonderful collection of a lot of shorts with all the stories based on stairs in the woods, that for the most part keep you reading way into the night.
