Cristine McMurdo-Wallis gives an enjoyable performance as she adeptly portrays the energetic, idealistic, and dogged detective. She impersonates the characters with confidence and style, whether it is the crusty commander, the shattered daughter of one of the victims, the ambitious, uninhibited journalist, or Eve’s cagey Irish lover. Cristine McMurdo-Wallis reads in an exceptionally clear voice. While some of the characters are subtly voiced, others, like Eve's lover and his butler, have distinct Irish and British accents. Though performed without melodrama, the characterizations are powerful, leaving little doubt as to who the bad guys are. Be forewarned, there's enough sizzling sex to make some listeners blush. Glory in Death - This is the second book of the In Death series by J. D. Robb, following Naked in Death and preceding Immortal in Death. Plot nt Eve Dallas must find out who is killing a series of high powered women before he can kill again.

A decade as a cop had toughened her, given her a cold, clinical, and often cynical eye toward death and its many causes.

D. Robb Glory in Death Eve Dallas and husband Roarke ONE The dead were her business. She lived with them, worked with them, studied them. And because that didn't seem to be enough, in some deep, secret chamber of her heart, she mourned for them. A decade as a cop had toughened her, given her a cold, clinical, and often cynical eye toward death and its many causes. It made scenes such as the one she viewed now, on a rainy night on a dark street nasty with litter, almost too usual.

"Their fates had intertwined, personally, professionally. It was murder that had brought them together, and murder that would continue to poke fingers into their lives. The woman beside him defended the dead."

FINAL DECISION: Wonderful followup to the amazing NAKED IN DEATH. In this book, Eve has another murder to solve that becomes connected to her personally as her relationship with the mysterious Roarke deepens.

THE STORY: Months after the events of NAKED IN DEATH, Eve has become more visible as a murder cop. When a well-known prosecutor is murdered by having her throat slashed, Eve is asked by her commander to take the case. When the next murder of a high profile woman occurs, Eve can't find a connection between these two highly visible women -- except that both has a connection to her lover Roarke. While Eve doesn't believe that Roarke is involved, she is feeling stress because their relationship is getting too intense and close and this case only puts more pressure on Eve.

OPINION: I loved this book and even knowing the answer to the mystery, I can read it again and again with enjoyment. The combination of a mystery that matter to Eve along with the drama of the developing relationship between Eve and Roarke makes this a book worth reading.

In this series, the best books have three elements (1) a mystery that is personal to Eve in some manner; (2) Eve's personal demons; and (3) some wonderful relationship moments with Eve and Roarke.

This book is one of the templates of that formula that works for dozens of these books. Eve is investigating the murder of someone she knows and whose murder touches on those around Eve. Even more, there is some parallel with Eve herself as she is feeling out her relationship with Roarke in the murder victim's relationship with her lover. In this book, Eve's personal demons are beginning to reveal themselves in stronger and more serious ways. Finally, this book sets up a conflict between Roarke and Eve as she has to deal with how serious the relationship has become and whether she is willing to take that next step of vulnerability.

While the first book in the series is a classic, this one feels more like the others in the series. Eve's character is more defined and her relationship with Roarke is more important.

This one also has a good mystery that actually has some possibility of being figured out rather than the solution just being sprung on the reader. Enjoyable the whole way through.

WORTH MENTIONING: The introduction of Peabody.

CONNECTED BOOKS: GLORY IN DEATH is the second book in the In Death series. While the mysteries in each book are standalones, there are continuing and overarching storylines (these early book are mostly about Eve's background and her relationship with Roarke) that continue book to book. I recommend reading the series in order although it is not strictly necessary.

STAR RATING: I give this book 5 stars.

i love JD Robb and all of the 'in death' stories. This collection however is an Abridged version so If you have read the books over and over and over again like I have and you know the stories front and back and in and out, you will definitely notice when they leave something out. Some people it does not bother but it does me. The story is still wonderful but I know that I am missing parts and will only get unabridged versions in the future.

Glory In Death is the 2nd in the In Death books , that follows main characters Lt. Eve Dallas and Roarke. In this futuristic- crime /myserty and romance series written by Nora Roberts as J.D. Robb.

As a fan of the series I have read this book a number of times before reading this kindle version. Where the first book Naked in Death made me curious about where the series would go. It was Glory In Death that really hooked me.

More for the developing rapport between the main and, supporting characters then the murder mystery. As I have other books in the series that are my favorite *who done it * the mystery aspects aren't perfect but, not bad in my opinion. It is more plausible to me to believe that finding a murderer isn't *cookie cutter* easy to find. Even for the most dedicated police detectives. A flaw I find in some crime books I have read.
That said it was a story where I 'd suspected the villain early but, didn't forsee the actual motivation of the killer. This made knowing part of the answer not a problem for me

I would highly recommend this book to others who like Nora Roberts or Crime drama's.

I am reading everything's on my Kindle keyboard before I start using my Paperwhite. Came across a whole bunch of books by J D Robb and I have been binging on them this week.

J D Robb, as you probably know, also writes romance as Norah Roberts. Writing as J D Robb, however, her style is darker and grittier.

This is a series of mysteries set in the not too far distant future when the earth has colonized a lot of planets, societal norms have changed in some ways, yet law and order remains law and order and the police are there to protect and serve.

This series chronicles the cases of Eve Dallas as she investigates murders and believes it is her vocation to stand for the dead, to see that they get justice.

In my opinion, a person is going to love these books or hate them, I happen to love them.

Well written, strongly developed characters, detailed plots. Someone is doing research and I appreciate that. Of course, there are some love stories woven in because that is part of life, after all, it can't be all grim.
