The author does have a way with wry writing and a nicely twisted sense of humor. I enjoyed the book, the strange characters and the very weird plot. Some quite funny scenes. The book could use a bit more tight editing. Many repetitive words and ideas within a paragraph is unnecessary and irritating. I shall probably check out others of her works.

I love Robin Hudson. She's beautiful, quirky and red-headed to boot. She's got an exciting life and has such original ideas...like planting poison ivy in all of her window boxes to make anyone who breaks in easy to identify or using a spray glue gun as a weapon of choice (not to mention the epilady!) Her family members are not unlike my own, particularly Aunt Mo.
I adored the fast-paced, unusual, hilarious S&M plot. Ms. Hayter's talent with wisecracks and word play is priceless. The description of Robin's evil neighbor's robe as 'looking like it was made from teddy bear pelts' had me rolling! What a fabulous description! It's worth buying this book just to get to know the unique characters. Thanks for a super read, Ms. Hayter. Keep 'em coming!

I have been a huge fan of Sparkle Hayter for years. She captured the NYC I lived in, 15 years ago, to a tee. New York has changed since, but the New York of the 1990s is worth revisiting. And Robin Hudson is a true New York broad--with cat, and poison ivy plant placed strategically on the window sill, protecting her against rapists.

That Robin Hudson lives in the Chelsea Hotel is icing on the cake. Classic setting, for a classic mystery series.

Nice Girls Finish Last is one of Hayter's best, but all the Robin Hudson novels are great. They are funny, surprising, and for the mystery addict they are deeply satisfying. The humor doesn't prevent real suspense. I've re-read them two, three times. I'm likely on my fourth read by way of kindle.

I don't want to spoil a single moment for anyone. Just suffice it to say, once picked up, this book cannot be put down.

I definitely enjoyed this book, particularly the humor. As one review said, I looked for the next witticism rather than who done it. She certainly is an author I will return to. Her philosophy and her adopted city appeal to me as well.

Hayter is brilliantly funny and never disappoints with her wit as this is a fun read for anyone who loves the mystery genre.
The main character has a wonderful view of the craziness that seems to constantly surround her in her job and city.
This is the second book in the Robin Hudson mystery series and I'm re-reading them all since they first came out in the 1990's.

Nice Girls Finish Last is fantastic only if you like a mystery, witty writing and humor that could have been the patient zero for the overused term LOL. The first time I read a Sparkle Hayter Robin Hudson mystery I literally laughed out loud in a bookstore and people looked at me like I had gone crazy. It's fun and funny. A+

Good enough that I want to read the other(s) in the series. But,this book was never funny enough that I did more than chuckle.
If you don't like funny mysteries with female protagonists you won't enjoy this one. I do (like) and did (enjoy). It's set in Manhattan with the narrator working in TV. She's something of a Bridget Jones character. Maybe there's symbolism in the S and M stuff, with the heroine having problems at work about being assertive or passive in a male-dominated world but mostly it's just funny with an ingenious and suspensful plot. Not quite as good as Janet Evanovich but almost there.
