Susan Ericksen (Narrator). After reading all 47 books and eagerly awaiting the 48th book, Connections in Death, I decided to revisit the beginning.

Naked in Death (1995) is the first book of the In Death series by J. Robb, preceding Glory in Death. This book originally had a cover flat produced for it with the name "D. J. MacGregor", but was changed later. I've read this series a couple of years back when I was still a student (had more time to read then) and I loved it! The problem was that I used to borrow the hardcopies from libraries, hence I had to read whatever was available in the library instead of going chronologically down the series. Bought a kindle recently, and the first book that came to mind was this! And I still love it reading it the second time as much as I did the first time :) I can't wait to go down the series one by one!

There are two things that intrigue me most when I got started on Book 1 of this fantastic series; firstly, to know more about this futuristic world where interplanetary travel is very much possible, and secondly, to follow the development of the lead couple who seem so different in characters, yet so perfect for one another.

Reading this series is like watching a TV serial for me. I love it that the books are still coming out year after year. I strongly encourage those who love crime-related cum romance novels to get started on these!

It’s a little unsettling how close to today’s political climate this book finds itself when it’s set years and years in the future.
In the beginning, it threw me off a little to have a story about a cop set in a time when guns are considered collector’s items. But once I got used to the premise, JD Robb’s style of writing swept me up and I had to find out whodunnit.
So many times the tension in a book like this is fabricated in the romantic relationship instead of naturally developing from the crime. Not here. Neither of the people in the relationship are perfect, and they have baggage and lots of issues, but they communicate and respect each other. Their ability to have a healthy relationship despite lots of roadblocks allows the reader to stay focused on the crime and where the story is going.
I’m ready for the next in the series!

LOVE LOVE LOVE J. D. ROBB's IN DEATH SERIES. This is the 1st book in the series and introduces you to EVE and ROARKE. Started this series because a friend loaned me book 2 or 3 in the series and had to buy the 1st and 2nd to see how EVE and ROARKE met and hooked up. I've been hooked ever since. Each book is a stand a lone story about a murder investigation but you'll enjoy them so much more if read in order. That's because there is a back story in each book about the main characters's (Eve and Roarke's) relationship with each other as well as their circle of friends/co-workers which grows with each book. While the murder mystery is always a great story...I also love to see how all the characters' lives grow and develop.

I am reading everything's on my Kindle keyboard before I start using my Paperwhite. Came across a whole bunch of books by J D Robb and I have been binging on them this week.

J D Robb, as you probably know, also writes romance as Norah Roberts. Writing as J D Robb, however, her style is darker and grittier.

This is a series of mysteries set in the not too far distant future when the earth has colonized a lot of planets, societal norms have changed in some ways, yet law and order remains law and order and the police are there to protect and serve.

This series chronicles the cases of Eve Dallas as she investigates murders and believes it is her vocation to stand for the dead, to see that they get justice.

In my opinion, a person is going to love these books or hate them, I happen to love them.

Well written, strongly developed characters, detailed plots. Someone is doing research and I appreciate that. Of course, there are some love stories woven in because that is part of life, after all, it can't be all grim.

THIS is the kind of book I DO NOT read. I subscribe to Agatha Christie's belief that there should be NO romance in mystery. Add to that - Futuristic Police Procedural? NO! But toward the end of last year, this book was designated for Book Club....and I got totally, absolutely hooked!

I believe that this series is best when read in order. Book 1 grabbed me (and I would later find that the series gets BETTER-WAY-BETTER than Book 1 as it progresses.) Naked In Death (Book 1) introduces the characters and allows the reader to adjust to the slightly futuristic elements (gun control at last!). The year is 2058 - not that big a jump.

There is a bit of a Jules Verne or Aldous Huxley going on here; the book was written in 1995 and we now have, in reality, many of the futuristic items described by Robb. Eve Dallas is our "heroine" - a Lieutenant with the N.Y. Police Department - tall, strong utterly The Best Cop - but flawed due to childhood abuse. (Yes, I know - most of us have heard it before. But it works well here.) The true "fantasy" comes with Roark, Leading Man Extraordinaire, who is one of the suspects in Eve's investigation of the death of a "Licensed Companion" - legal prostitute.

Robb lays the groundwork for her series very well, and by the end of this book, I was more than willing to "suspend disbelief" and enjoy this and other entries into series. (I confess: I am now on Book 5.) I think the series tops out (so far) with -In Death #46.

There is a solid whodunnit mystery here--it is all not gimmickry. There are suspects - red herrings too. And the surprise ending works well (I couldn't guess the guilty party.)

LOTS of fun and solid mystery here! Get ready to become "hooked" - as I was!

An addictive series! And like I said earlier, I don't read books like this

I've been a long time fan of the "In Death" series. While waiting for the newest book to come out, I decided I'd go back and re-read the series since it's been years. What I discovered , s that I love it as much now as the first time through. I can't wait to see Peobody introduced. I'll enjoy the romance of Rourke and Eve all over again. Yes indeed, some of the best books I've ever read.
Can't wait!
