Great fun and relaxing read. I enjoy all his books because I can figure out the crime, not get stressed more than necessary and enjoy the world of Stone Barrington where money is never a concern and I can end the book, feeling good most of the times.

A great character in Stone Barrington but I realize that noboby could be that good and in dirt I was proven correct as he was beaten and robbed which made him more human. This is about the forth or fifth Stone Barrington book that I have read and now that I have a list in order that they were written, I plan on reading all of them.

The plot has too many coincidences and holes.
I won't spoil it for those who like the Barrington books, but far fetched is an understatement. The ending is again contrived.
The ads continue throughout this book too. From cars to watches to wines and restaurants, it seems that Woods is into product placement.

DIRT is the second novel in the Stone Barrington series by Stuart Woods. I know it's early in the series but I am enjoying it. Of course I like the Holly Barker and Will Lee series too. Woods cranks out these book and I am glad. Stone Barrington is an ex-cop, a lawyer witha private practice that really works for a major law practice to well, take care of then dirty little case. And in this book Woods establishes Barington as some ladies man. In this book alone he goes through his good looking lady judge girl friend, has a little spin with Amanda Dart, meets nineteen year old Tiffany Potts, and then there is the introduction of Addington Carter...even makes Stone think, Addington Barrington, oh my. This novel is about scandal within the gossip industry if you can believe it. Stone Barrington is great beach reads. RECOMMENDED.. On to DEAD IN THE WATER

I just like the way he writes. My husband was in the 44 precinct in the Bronx, NY and he seems to be quite familiar with the mannerisms of NYC policemen. I liked the characters and the action and it is easy reading. No looking for any deeper meaning, just an interesting story. There are a couple of twists but on the whole predictable. Since I follow and love the characters and have read quite a few of his books and really like them, I always want more of his stories.

Stone Barrington, a retired detective, now council to a large and successful law firm, is hired to represent a very successful individual who is being threatened by persons unknown. The threat is in the form of a fax, which has a long list of additional names that are receiving it. The fax mentions intimate details of her life which she denies, but eventually is proven to be true. During his investigation, he suffers a beating that places him in the hospital. A detective follows a lead, but is discovered and killed. A romantic involvement makes Stone realize a feeling that is stronger than anyone previously and his thoughts lead to perhaps a future with this person

I really loved this book it was a real page turner for me. This is the second book I've read by Stuart Woods> I am so hooked on Stone Barrington and purchased the next few books. The now turned private eye Stone is loaded with drama. The dirt part is a Cindy Adams type lady, she is awesome and adds so much character to this book. This will keep you up until you are finished. I found it easy and super suspenseful. Right on the edge of my seat now waiting for more. I must warn the sexual appetite of the character is high, but that didn't bother me. Stuart Woods has got a fan for life.
The main character, Stone, is okay, but there are no other characters that have enough redeeming qualities to make them relatable. The plot includes so many faxes it feels (and is) very dated. I recommend author John Sandford for substantially better murder mysteries.
