Description

The Charlie Parker Mystery Series. Samantha Sweet Mysteries. Other author's books: Vacations Can Be Murder: The Second Charlie Parker Mystery.

The Charlie Parker Mystery Series. Charlie is slick, appealing, and nobody’s fool-just what readers want in an amateur sleuth. Charlie is a fabulous amateur sleuth. A good story and a challenging puzzle.

In Vacations Can Be Murder Charlie does have a romantic fling while tracking down the murderer who spoils her island getaway. I do hope she takes her dog Rusty with her on her next vacation, I missed him! This is definitely 'chic lit' but is engrossing and entertaining.

Vacations Can be Murder: The Second Charlie Parker Mystery (Charlie Parker Mysteries). This is the second book in the Charlie Parker series by Connie Shelton. I have enjoyed the book and will read others in the series. 1890768014 (ISBN13: 9781890768010). Charlie has had a rough few months - she's a CPA who also owns a detective agency with her brother. So, she's headed for a Hawaii vacation now that tax season is over and her brother is back on duty after being sidelined with a broken leg. On her very first day there, she takes a helicopter ride and they discover a dead body along the coast.

Chapter 1. The letter arrived on a Tuesday, a pale purple envelope that smelled like a candle shop and bore a British postmark. It slid out of the stack of mail that I’d tossed on the dining table and I debated between ripping it open immediately (curiosity and impatience being two of my stronger suits), or opening all the bills first and then savoring this strange new arrival (saving the best for last). Curiosity won out. The looping backhand script delivered surprising news.

When I pulled up to the mansion Katie jumped out of my car, said a quick thanks, and dashed inside she played on the floor with . .

When I pulled up to the mansion Katie jumped out of my car, said a quick thanks, and dashed inside she played on the floor with Freckles. Maybe the old-fashioned remedy, a good cry, had done both of us some good. I was debating whether to follow her to the door and see if I could corner Jerry long enough for a little heart-to-heart when my phone rang down inside my pocket. Ron. I am not a happy camper, he said. We’re stuck here in Dallas.

Great setting on Hawaii's Garden Island, gives some nice descriptions of Kauai. Story keeps you guessing although some times illogical is still good story. Character development is good for the most part, nice little island romance along with solving mystery Murder and side trip to San Francisco of the main character. She will not return to New Mexico the same person and makes you want to find out what happens next in the sequel. Overall pleasant book, with only mild violence and just a little sexual content, not overdone. The first book in this series is free, this is book 2 which I liked better that the first book. Have just started book 3, so far continues to be entertaining and a good story.

Again - as a marketing professor I applaud the strategy of making the first novel of a series's free. After the first, free Charlie Parker, Deadly Gamble, I immediately purchased Vacations Can Be Murder, and I will be reading the third book (Partnerships Can Be Murder) as soon as I finish this review.

One thing that I demand of a mystery novel is that it hold my attention and the Charlie Parker series does that. I would like to see the characters other than Charlie have more depth, but Charlie herself is warm, funny and intriguing. I find it a bit odd that a healthy 30 year old would not be a bit more preoccupied with her love life but hey, at least her dog is faithful.

In Vacations Can Be Murder Charlie does have a romantic fling while tracking down the murderer who spoils her island getaway. I do hope she takes her dog Rusty with her on her next vacation, I missed him! This is definitely 'chic lit' but is engrossing and entertaining. Gotta go - time to read #3!

Connie Shelton's Charlie Parker after solving a murder back home in Albuquerque heads off to Hawaii for a relaxing vacation. Well her plans were to have a relaxing vacation until taking a helicopter sightseeing tour while flying over a area that the helicopter do not normally fly over see what appears to be a dead body lying in the rocky cliffs and Charlie being Charlie is not satisfied to notify the local authorities and go about her merry way on the vacation. No she has to stick her nose into this dead body when she becomes romantically involved with one of the helicopter pilots who's boss and company owner is charged with the murder. I loved Charlie getting cozy with someone there were some Loving and almost sexy scenes. There are a good half dozen suspects in this tale I could not guess the murderer and i am betting you can't either. Download. Purchase or borrow this book but read it

Connie Shelton writes a good novel and this one is no exception. It takes place in Hawaii and she gets drawn into a murder that occurred on the island she was visiting. The call of the mystery has beckoned her and she steps up to the plate even though she is supposed to be on vacation. She is helping a friend of a friend to solve this and it is exciting to read how she unravels a mystery that the local authorities are dragging their feet on and ready to pin it on someone that didn't do it.

This was a fun, fast read. I have spent time in Hawaii/the islands, so could relate to a lot of what the author wrote. The plot certainly held my interest and I will be going on to Connie Shelton's next book...#3 in the series. And no...I didn't know 'who did it'...had to read to end to find out. The clues were there, I just didn't pick up on them. Had my sight set on...ohhh never mind, don't want to do a spoiler here. Suffice to say, author led us to believe it could of been any one of suspects...all who had the motives.

I truly enjoyed the book. Good use of descriptive words helped me envision her in Hawaii! It had a good twist, because I never could have guessed who the killer was.
However whoever edited this book kind of did a bad job. I found myself having to correct a lot of things while reading because there were a number of grammatical errors. I am reading "Partnerships can be Murder" and already I have seen errors. Better editing and it would have been 5 stars

I enjoyed the first book in this series but was disappointed by this one. I get that these books were written quite some time ago, as evidenced by the references to VCRs and Walkmans, but man could they do with some revisions. The use of the words 'Oriental' and 'Japs' had me staring open mouthed at my Kindle screen.
Also, the main character was so different from the first book it felt like a considerable amount of time had passed between the writing of the two. I liked that in the first book Charlie just got down to business and solved the mystery. I cannot stand mystery books that include romance and sex in the plotline. If I wanted to read a romance novel I would.
What I had hoped would be a new series to enjoy ends here, unfortunately.
Cute series that keeps you turning the pages without wanting to put it down. Good character development and believable action.
