I enjoyed this newest book by Catherine Gaskin and it was a quick read but it lacked something and I'm unsure what. It had all her trademarks and twists but it lacked "heart". There was very little steam between the two main characters just lots of eye contact. I have read some of her books twice because they were so good. I would not give this a second read. Set during the swinging sixties this is the story of Maura D'Arcy who is a likable character that I felt really vested in her life story. Maura's mother Blanche has died so Blanche's partner and Maura are left to run her antique shop.

Set during the swinging sixties this is the story of Maura D'Arcy who is torn between two very different men. Maura is a young woman who is unaware of her heritage or that her history is so convoluted.

Really enjoy the novels of Catherine Gaskin, she writes interesting characters and topics. The theme of this novel is the fascinating subject of Glassblowing. Thought the atmosphere of the 60's well portrayed here. Actually felt some empathy towards Maura who had no idea what she was letting herself in for when she journeyed to Ireland to meet her family.

A novel of jealousy, tradition, love and family ties.

Good story but not as meaty or well rounded as some of her others.

No, it's not Victorian but if it were not for the mention of more modern things you would think it was. I'm afraid I got tired of all the dark melodrama about half way through and skipped to the last 20 pages where it all turned out the way I had expected. The best thing she ever wrote was The Lynmara Legacy. I had hoped some of her other books were as good but I've read 3 now and No, they are not as good.
