However, if you haven't read the Callahan Garrity series by Trocheck, which are now being republished in paperback as by Mary Kay Andrews, you are in for a treat and I highly recommend it.

This is the best Trocheck book yet - and all of them are great! If you are looking for an amusing, yet stimulating mystery - this is the series for you. Get them all and have a wonderful time with Callahan and her House Mouse cleaning crew.

In this heartwarming, suspenseful, and hilarious novel, Callahan Garrity and the outrageous band of "girls" in her Atlanta cleaning crew join together during the Christmas rush to prove that her trailer-trash brother didn't kill his even trashier estranged wife.

BOND BOND
Before Mary Kay Andrews wrote Hissy Fit, Christmas Bliss, Save The Date, and many other books, she wrote a series of books under the name of Kathy Hogan Trochick about a retired Atlanta policewoman who runs a house cleaning service and also takes cases occasionally as a private eye. Midnight Clear is the fifth book in that series and is the best of the series thus far. In this book, Callahan Garrity, the house cleaning private eye, spends her time trying to solve the murder of her sister-in-law to help pave the way for her brother to obtain custody of his daughter, Maura.

The book is suspenseful, has lots of twists, and a surprise ending. This book is the first one that Kathy Hogan Trochick wrote that gives one a glimpse of the kind of writing her readers have come to expect of her once she began writing as Mary Kay Andrews. I suggest you purchase at least one of the first four books before you read this so you will know who the various characters are when you come across them in this book. You can still read this as a standalone book, but Ms. Trochick spent a lot of time developing some off-beat characters in her first four books, it would be a shame not to read at least one of them. Nevertheless, regardless of whether you read any of the other books, definitely read this one.

I am a huge mystery fan. I have read hundreds of books, and then pass them on to the other members of my "reading group". I bought this book, and several others by the same author, after reading all the positive reviews on Amazon. It will go into the recycling and not be passed on. Once or twice I can tolerate the foul language----and of course I realize that it's meant to convey a character's mindset. But "F this" again and again ruins the story for me. So, that's the end of this author for me. The books won't even go to Goodwill--just out.

This book is another well told story in the series, with plenty of plot twists and turns, and the usual cast of interesting characters.
The introduction of Callahan's brother makes the plot unpredictable, as we have no previous knowledge of him or his personality. As you begin to make a guess, something happens to take the plot in another direction, and your attention is held to the conclusion. The character of Callahan is what makes each book worth reading as you learn more about her, and all the characters that surround her.

Liked the book, very much. It was a fast and pleasant read during the bustling holday season while I wanted to read but had very little time or concentration necessary to spend on a heavy-duty novel. The characters were well developed, likable and unlikeable, if the author wanted that from the reader. Glad I had it there at the end of each holiday-worn-out-tired day. Refreshing and light.

Always a great story with lots of guessing. Keeps you on your toes with your nose in the book. Unsuspected ending.
