The 1999 "Nunavut Handbook", authored largely by Nunavut writers, is the world's most comprehensive travel guidebook to the Canadian Arctic. In addition to vital travel information, the Handbook includes extensive cultural and historical accounts of the Inuit inhabitants, their extraordinary land claim, and new this year, a political section that explains the structure of Canada's newest territorial government, and summarizes the roles of Nunavut's land claims and other organizations.

I purchased this guide before flying into Arviat on a caribou hunt. The lack of information on anything in the book that I was looking for was awful. I wanted what the company stores carried in stock. The flora and fauna of the area. More about personal customs of the people. It did have some info on hunting and fishing, but not much. Buy the book, but only to check out what little info it has on your computer. Believe me there isn't much there either. Nunavut is a new Native Province in Canada. Its some of the most beautiful, unspoiled land you will ever see. During my hunt I got my caribou, saw two polar bears, and one Barrens Ground Grizzly, snowshoe hares, geese etc. We found an old camp site (prior to 1850) looking around we found bone needles and small broken implements. During rest stops, or scoping for our prey, we would find dwarf blueberries that were delicious. All of these things are what have should have been in the book. My guide had a local carver make an antler snow goggle for me and some other small carvings, because, when I arrived and left, the company store was closed those days and hours.

I'm not so sure that amazon has the latest edition of this book. Check [...] for more information. They have a 2004 edition and the information on this page says 1998. Possibly the edition here is updated but the page is not.
